SHG girls shut down Rochester

ROCHESTER — Sacred Heart-Griffin High School built a 10-point halftime lead and then held Rochester to 10 second-half points to seal a 60-33 Central State Eight Conference girls basketball victory over the Rockets on Tuesday at the Rochester Athletic Complex.

Addison Scarlette sparked the Cyclones in the first quarter when she scored seven points as SHG led 17-12 after one. Then Emily Brenneneisen and Sofie Lowis each made a 3-pointer in the second quarter as the Cyclones made seven baskets and extended their lead to 33-23 at the half.

SHG then outscored Rochester 27-10 in the second half, closing out the game at the free-throw line, making 10 of 16 from the stripe in the fourth period. Scarlette finished with a game-high 15 points and Brenneisen ended with three 3s and scored 12. Lowis made 4 of 6 free throws in the final quarter and had 11 for SHG, now 13-5 overall and 6-2 in the CS8.

Kelsi Bales was the only scorer in double figures for Rochester (11-10, 4-4). Bales buried three 3s — all in the first half — and had a team-high nine points for the Rockets.
