Lowis, SHG top Lanphier in City preview

Sofie Lowis scored 20 points and led Sacred Heart-Griffin High School to a 58-52 Central State Eight Conference win over Lanphier at Lober-Nika Gymnasium on Thursday in what could be a Girls City Tournament title game preview.

SHG (14-5 overall, 7-2 CS8) jumped out to a 16-8 lead before the Lions outscored the Cyclones 20-15 in the second quarter.

In the third, SHG once again pulled away by outscoring Lanphier 17-10.

Lowis sank four 3-pointers. Teammates Addison Scarlette and Jillian Hulcher added 17 and 10 points each, respectively.

Martrice Brooks scored a game-high 21 points for the Lions (11-5, 6-2). She connected to hit four of Lanphier’s seven 3-pointers. Gracie Hampton netted 11 for Lanphier.

The Girls City Tournament is scheduled for Jan. 29-30 and Feb. 1 at Southeast’s Herb Scheffler Gymnasium. Springfield High has won the last six tournament titles outright.
